Hydrotherapy

Hydrotherapy is the treatment of a wide range of conditions in a heated pool environment.

It utilises the warmth of the water to relax muscles, uses the buoyancy to assist or resist movement and the weightlessness to decrease pain and reduce stress/loading placed on bones and joints.

You do not need to be able to swim to benefit from Hydrotherapy. Your head does not go under the water. People with poor water confidence can also benefit as the pool is shallow and your feet can remain firmly on the bottom of the pool at all times.

Which Conditions Benefit?

  • Orthopaedic conditions (especially pre or post surgery)
  • Immobility following fracture healing
  • Spinal Conditions (post surgery, acute or chronic back and neck pain, poor trunk stability)
  • Arthritic Conditions (osteoarthritis and rheumotoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis)

Please call to book an appointment – your initial assessment will be in a treatment room and suitability for Hydrotherapy will be discussed. Hydrotherapy is usually used in combination with land based physiotherapy treatment.

Our hydrotherapy pool is based Castle Royle Golf and Country Club – for directions click here.

What you need to bring – swimming costume, towel, swimming hat, small padlock for locker.
